Immigration & Art: Part I

I was thinking about the ways immigration has shaped American art. And the first thing that popped to mind was the art you can actually wear: fashion.
So I looked up some of the spring 2009 (yes, clothes we'll be wanting to wear a year from now) and came up with some interesting, very international looks from some very national designers.

It is interesting to watch how a culture intertwines with another other. Obviously, the mixing of art and fashion do show that immigration is having a broad effect on culture. It seems to me that the problem is that culture will mix even if there isn’t a large amount of immigration. Japan has a relatively low immigration rate compared to the United States. Without a large amount of immigrants, the Japanese are changing their art and dress to model other cultures quite heavily. Saying that changing fashion is because of immigration seems to be a stretch.
